We just opened escrow on a new house. Upon walking in, I had tears in my eyes because I could imagine us raising our family there. We couldn’t be happier.
…Or more petrified. The negotiation process took a total of nine days and I’m already worn out. That’s BEFORE we’ve even started scraping the popcorn ceiling, laying new floors, fixing electrical problems, painting, packing and – oh yeah – moving in.
How do you protect a baby’s sleep schedule in such a chaotic chapter of life? How do you give them everything they need while also taking care of business?
During a breastfeeding class pre-Seabass, the lactation educator specifically warned us naive new parents, for our own sanity’s sake, not to move during the first 6 months of our new babies’ lives.
Huh.

nice. i just did (or, rather, am in the process of doing) the same thing. specifically my husband traveled extensively for job interviews within the first two months after birth. accepted a job. we sold our house at about 4-5 months, traveled to the OTHER STATE where his job now is a few times, found an apartment, and moved all of our belongings down there. Oh, and my husband moved down there at the beg. of the month, while I’m still in our old town living with my mom with the baby while I finish my job (until the end of this month). We just hit the 6 month mark last week 🙂 because of all of this insanity we decided not to even try sleep training or scheduling until we were settled. although i have successfully developed a bedtime and a bedtime routine…just haven’t mastered the sleeping through the night thing yet. good luck–it can be done! (sorry for the long comment)
Well, you and Jacob take an oar and Nick and I will take one, too. We’ll be in this crazy boat together. We are in the midst of tearing up floors demo’ing walls and slopping on the paint. Get your juggling skills sharpened because five month old babies don’t care if you’ve already painted half the wall they want you NOW! But, hey, we’ll all look back and laugh at our naive enthusiasm…or cry and cry and cry.

It is hard moving with little ones. We have moved way too many times already. Kira refers to the red roof top house, Mimi’s house, the pink house and now we are in the blue house! Oh well?! He will adjust and life will settle down. You are an amazing momma and just make sure you drink enough water doing all the manual labor to ensure milk supply. Congratulations on the house!!
The first 8 months of my first childs’ life:
Mom and Dad newly married.
Mom and Dad got new Job
Mom and Dad moved to new state.
Mom’s parents got divorced.
Mom and Dad had to move 3 times.
Mom got cancer.
They survive. You will too.
We moved when he was 4 to almost 6 months. Moved out of our house. Moved into the in-laws. For 3 weeks. Yup. Then moved into the new house. We survived – not without a few scars – but we survived.
Congratulations! So exciting! So happy for ya’ll. 🙂
